Los Angeles, CA — A federal jury in Los Angeles has determined that two men will receive the death penalty for killing five people in Southern California, and dumping their bodies into the New Melones Lake back in 2001.

Receiving the sentence are 41 year old Iouri Mikhel of Encino and 40 year old Jurijus Kadamovas of Encino. Federal prosecutors say the two defendants tried to amass a fortune by kidnapping affluent Russian immigrants from Los Angeles and extorting money from the families and friends of their hostages.

According to the U.S. Attorney´s Office, the verdict is binding on U.S. District Judge Dickran Tevrizian, who is scheduled to formally sentence the two men on March 12.
