Save Mart Disavows Any Involvement In Albertson’s Closure
Sonora, CA — Save Mart was not involved in the decision to close the Albertson´s store at the Junction Shopping Center in Sonora.
That´s the official statement from Save Mart Communications Manager Alisha Rockwell from the company´s Modesto corporate office.
Rockwell stated that on November 27 Save Mart agreed to purchase 132 Albertson´s stores including the Junction Shopping Center location. Albertson´s then decided to withdraw two stores from the deal: the Sonora location and a store in Oroville, CA. Albertson´s then decided to close both of those stores. Save Mart´s purchase of the remaining 130 stores, two of which were already closed, has yet to be finalized.
According to Rockwell, had the Junction Shopping Center store remained in the deal, it would have opened under the Save Mart banner. Approximately 70 employees will lose their jobs when the Albertson´s store closes its doors February 17.
Save Mart will continue to operate its two Sonora area stores located at the Timber Hills Shopping Center and on Stockton Rd.
