Columbia College To Host “Cash For College Night”

Sponsored by:

Columbia, CA — A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a qualifying high school senior by registering at Columbia College´s financial aid department´s “Cash for College Night” on Wednesday, February 7 at 7:00 p.m.

Held in the campus community education classroom in the Manzanita Building, the workshop will be presented for high school and college students or potential students, who need help meeting college expenses, either at Columbia College or at another educational institution. The presentation is open to the public, is free of charge, and advance registration is not required.

The evening will begin with an overview describing the application process and the types of financial aid available. This will be followed by a step-by-step review of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. Due to time constraints, most students will not be able to complete the FAFSA during the activity. Financial aid staff members, identified byI Speak FAFSA” t-shirts, will be available to answer questions.

To qualify for the $1,000 Cash for College Scholarship, high school seniors must attend the workshop and fill out an exit evaluation. In addition, the student must complete and send in the FAFSA and Cal Grant GPA verification form before the Mar. 2 deadline. One qualifying applicant per workshop will be randomly selected for the scholarship and more than 300 will be awarded statewide in May 2007. To claim the scholarship, recipients must attend a two or four year degree-granting institution within or outside California in fall 2007.
