Sierra Pacific Industries Begins Cedar Fencing Production

Sponsored by:

Chinese Camp, CA — A Ribbon cutting ceremony was held this afternoon at the Sierra Pacific Industries new cedar fencing saw mill in Chinese Camp.

Around 50 were on hand. Among the speakers was owner George Emerson, who talked about the transition to the new operation.

Emerson said,Last spring we were faced with a dilemma that the resources we had for the plants in Tuolumne County were not adequate to continue operating in the same light that we had been operating our business. Consequently, we were frankly faced with a plant closure or to change our business strategy somehow.”

He told everyone, “Obviously we went with the second option.”

Emerson notes that the company started three weeks ago with a training and start up phase. He said the cedar fencing will be distributed throughout the western United States, particularly to home centers. The sawmill employs around 105 people.
