Supervisors To Consider Extension Of Groveland Physical Therapy Unit Funding

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — When the Tuolumne County Supervisors close out the November schedule of meetings today they will consider approving an extension of operations of the Groveland Physical Therapy Unit from December 31, 2008 to March 31, 2009.

The extension would include potential changes in unit management, extension of staffing and increased funding from General Fund contingencies.

The request for the extension was made at last week´s meeting when the Board received a letter from Physical Therapist Julie Tanaka, who recently purchased a home with her husband in the Pine Mountain Lake area.

?I would like to propose to the county that they extend their deadline for closure to March 31, 2009 to allow the establishment of the appropriate credentialing and insurance contracts to take over the clinic and maintain continuity of care and staffing. I am happy to work with the county to establish communication on timelines and agreements as needed.?

Tanaka currently owns a physical therapy clinic in the Monterey area.

Also today a member of the Board will be selected to serve as an alternate on the Joint Powers Authority Governing Board for economic development in Tuolumne County. Last week Sonora Mayor Ron Stern named himself to serve as the city´s alternate. Hank Russell and Bill Canning had already been selected to serve as the city´s two members of the seven member board.

Board Chair Dick Pland and Third District Supervisor Teri Murrison have already been selected to serve as the Board´s two members.

Following the selection of the Board´s alternate, three “at-large” members from the community will be selected by the city-county to complete the Governing Board. Then an executive director will be hired to manage the day-to-day operations.
