Lawton Waits For “Other Foot To Drop”

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — Calaveras County Administrative Officer Bob Lawton is literally waiting for the “other foot to drop.” when it comes to the continued budget cuts from the state legislature.

Lawton says that traditionally the counties always get the “short end of the stick” because the state will mandate a number of programs and fail to provide the funding.

Lawton adds that the state also will deal with counties in two different ways. The state will reduce funds or maintain the same payments to the counties over a period of years allowing inflation to eat up the value of the dollar.

Lawton, not unlike Tuolumne CAO Craig Pedro, fully realizes that more cuts will be coming from the state as Sacramento legislators wrestle with a current $11.2 billion deficit and a projected 2010 deficit of $28 billion.
