Calaveras County Jail Ground Breaking Could Come Next Summer
San Andreas, CA — Despite all the budget woes in Sacramento Calaveras County Sheriff Dennis Downum states that jail funding monies as passed by AB900 are totally separate from the state´s general fund. Downum was Thursday morning´s KVML Newsmaker of the Day.
That said Downum says the next step is to hire a construction manager to oversee the project. Once that is accomplished construction bids will be accepted by the County.
The Newsmaker of the Day can be heard each weekday morning at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47 on AM-1450 KVML.
Downum feels ground could possibly be broken for the 240 bed facility during the summer of 2009. The overall facility will also house the 911 Communications Center and all administrative personnel.
Calaveras County was awarded $26 million from the state to supplement the $30 million bond issue that was passed by the voters.
