T.C. Chamber Of Commerce Loses Two Members
Sonora, CA — Condor Earth Technologies and attorney Kate Powell Segerstrom have renounced their respective memberships in the Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce.
Condor President Barry Hillman commented, “I have long objected to the Chamber taking a position with respect to any local political candidate. Taking positions on various policy measures, bills, bonds and things of that nature is fine but by taking a position with respect to individual candidates it suggests that the other candidate does not agree with the Chamber´s positions and I just don´t think that is appropriate at all.”
Hillman is referring to the recent recommending of Challenger Randy Selesia over the Incumbent Liz Bass in the November 4 General Election for the District One supervisorial position.
Hillman adds that in his mind after viewing the Chamber website there is no doubt in his mind that the Chamber and the Political Action Committee (PAC), which made the recommendation, are one in the same.
However Chamber President Jim Costello commented that, “There are a few people that misunderstood the practice of the Chamber on endorsing local candidates. The Chamber actually does not endorse local candidates.”
Segerstrom left the Chamber for the same reason as stated by Hillman.
