Supervisors Approve Creation Of Housing Division

Sponsored by:

Sonora, Ca — A Housing Division has been created within the Tuolumne County Community Development Department in hopes of maximizing current efforts to expand affordable housing in the County.

The matter was approved by the Board of Supervisors today by a 5-0 vote, and it also includes a plan to hire a Housing Programs Coordinator that will report directly to the Community Development Director.

The Coordinator is expected to be in charge of developing and implementing County housing goals, policies and procedures. The individual will also administer functions related to the recently passed Inclusionary Housing Ordinance and coordinate the activities of a variety of other housing programs.

$300,000 of seed money has been set aside to initiate the new Housing Division. The funding is expected to be sufficient to sustain the Division for approximately two years. County staff will be charged with pursuing other sources of funding to ensure that the new Division will be self supporting before the seed money is exhausted.
