Sponsored by:

Twain Harte, CA — A fire that burned the side of a garage and moved through the attic and into the living area was extinguished earlier this afternoon.

According to CAL Fire Battalion Chief Dave Row on scene the fire started near a pile of wood adjacent to the side of the garage and moved into the attice area. The fire then moved into the living area of the remodeled home at 17798 Dove Court.

There were no occupants within the structure at the time of the fire.

CAL Fire Investigator Rommie Jones reports the fire was caused by spontaneous combustion of a pile of rags that were located at the side of the garage. The rags had been used by the property owner to apply oil base stain. The owner had left the property and returned to his nearby home when the first started.

Responding to the fire were all aircraft from the Columbia Air Base, CAL Fire, Twain Harte Fire, Tuolumne County Fire Department, MiWuk-Sugar Pine, Crystal Falls, Cedar Ridge, Mono Vista-Soulsbyville, Jamestown and Columbia College Breathing Support.

The incident was closed at 5:35pm. No damage estimate has been announced.
