Cause Of Smitty Lane Fire Still Undetermined

San Andreas, CA — CAL Fire Communications Operator Peggy Sue Wagner confirms the cause of the 50 acre Smitty Lane Monday afternoon fire in the West Point area has yet to be determined.

The vegetation fire was initially reported at 4:30pm. Response included all aircraft from the Columbia Air Base, seven chief officers, five hand crews, 16 CAL Fire engines, eight local engines, four water tenders and three dozers.

The fire was pronounced 100 percent contained at 8:05pm. No injuries or structural damage has been reported.

A short term evacuation center was established at the Community Church near the West Point Elementary School which was utilized as the staging area for CAL Fire.

Also for a short period of time the Sheriff´s Department closed Hwy 26 at Winton along with portions of Bald Mountain Rd. and Bummerville Rd.
