Sonora, CA — 30 year old David Roy Stanton is scheduled to be sentenced this afternoon at 1:15 in Department Four of Superior Court for the August 25, 2007 murder of Jon Steven Flaherty of Wallace.

Flaherty´s body was found by investigators on August 28 in the Deer Creek area near Murderers Gulch.

Friday, May 23 Stanton was found guilty of second degree murder by a jury of 10 women and two men. His first trial ended in a hung jury with 10 jurors voting for second degree murder while the other two voted for voluntary manslaughter.

Given his past criminal record Prosecuting Attorney Jim Newkirk of the District Attorney´s Office has commented that Stanton could be facing 40 years behind bars with no chance for parole.

Prior to Stanton´s second trial his sister, Shawna Lea, was convicted of being an accessory after the fact and a felon in possession of a firearm in the same case.
