Oliver Fire Reaches 70 Percent Containment
Mariposa County, CA — According to Battalion Chief Rick Vogt the 2,789 acre Oliver Fire located in Devils Gulch – Ponderosa Basin – Chowchilla Mountain Rd. (approximately 14 miles southeast of Mariposa and 17 miles northwest of Oakhurst), is 70 percent contained as of 0800 today.
Helicopters remain on site while air tankers have been diverted to other fires in northern California.
As the containment percentage increases resources, with but a single exception, are decreasing. This morning handcrews had been reduced from 30 to 26 from Monday. Engines were reduced from 136 to 91 this morning. Water tenders now number 12 rather than the 15 on site Monday. Bulldozers now number but eight as compared to 19 yesterday. Ironically helicopters have increased from two to four.
16 injuries have been reported; 3 moderate and 13 minor.
No structures have been damaged and no evac orders have been issued. Contingency plans have, however, been in place since the outset of the lightning caused fire 10 days ago.
