Sponsored by:

Mariposa County, CA — According to CAL Fire and local fire officials the Oliver Fire is 65 percent contained as of 1700 hours, Monday, June 30.

The size of the fire remains at 2,789 acres. The exact location is Devils Gulch – Ponderosa Basin – Chowchilla Mountain Rd. approximately 14 miles southeast of Mariposa and 17 miles northwest of Oakhurst.

Total personnel assigned to this fire numbers 1,294. On site Monday were 30 handcrews, 136 engines, 15 watertenders, 19 bulldozers, one air tact plane and two helicopters.

The fire spread has slowed but the fire continues backing in steep inaccessible terrain. There are areas of unburned vegetation within the interior of the fire area that continue to ignite and burn. Mop-up of the large fuels is a slow and tedious process. As fire suppression activity diminishes, demobilization of some firefighters may begin with 24 hours.

No evacuation orders have been issued during the course of the lightning caused Oliver Fire. Cost to date; $9.27 million.
