Blizzard Warning Remains In Effect For The Mother Lode

Sacramento, CA — The National Weather Service is predicting blizzard conditions over the next couple of days with the three storms headed for the Mother Lode.

The first storm will hit the region at 4pm today with a far more powerful storm set to engulf the region Friday evening through Saturday morning. The “blizzard warning” will last from 4am Friday until 4am Saturday.

Snow levels for the storms are expected to be between 5,000 to 6,000 feet Thursday evening into Friday and then drop to between 3,000 and 4,000 feet by Saturday morning. The heaviest snowfall is expected Friday. According to the National Weather Service several feet of snow are expected.

In addition to the snow, wind gusts in excess of 65mph in the higher passes are expected this evening. Friday those wind gusts are expected to reach as high as 100mph.

A third storm will move into the region Sunday with a foot or more of additional snow possible. Snow levels are expected to drop to around 2,500 to 3,000 feet Sunday morning.
