Winter Wonderland Hits The Mother Lode

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — While P.G.& E. crews throughout the state battled the elements to restore power to more than two million customers over the weekend, many residents toured the winter wonderland that inundated the Mother Lode.

As one traveled east on Hwy 108 Sunday afternoon, the amount of the snowfall became quite evident with every passing mile. While the snow failed to reach downtown Sonora at approximately 1,850 feet, snowfall was present in the Soulsbyville area.

Many motorists decided Lyon´s Dam Rd. was the place to stop for a bit of tailgating and playtime in the snow. Vehicles literally lined both sides of the highway just east of Sierra Village.

Some even ventured as far east as Little Sweden, but to go any further you had to have chains for your vehicle. The snowfall was the result of a Saturday storm, the second of three, that dumped feet, rather than inches, of snow on the Sierra Nevada.
