Sonora Soldier Fatally Injured In Afghanistan

Sponsored by:

Sonora, Ca — 22-year-old U.S. Army Sgt. Bobby Rapp of Sonora was fatally injured Monday by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan.

“He wanted to make a difference in this world,” says Jennifer Rapp, Bobby Rapp´s mother. “9-11 had a huge impact on him. He said never again will they hurt us on our soil. He wanted to protect his country, and he realized that freedom is not free.”

The Rapp family was made aware of the situation earlier this week when an Army Lieutenant arrived at their home.

Rapp was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne, and was on duty at the time of the incident. His mother says he is remembered for his good heart, strong character and being a Christian. She jokes that he also had a tendency to be a “rascal.”

Rapp very much loved Sonora, and he was always embraced by the community when he would return home for a short break. Funeral services for Rapp are pending.
