Burn Permits Required May 1
Sonora, CA — Mark it on your calendar; May 1 … that is the day that burn permits will be required in the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit.
With the current windy conditions and low fuel moisture, CAL Fire Fire Prevention Bureau Chief Dennis Townsend has labeled current conditions as volatile.
Current live fuel moistures are approximately 30 percent lower than a year ago at this time and even though moisture is expected over the next 24-36 hours, CAL Fire does not feel it will be a significant amount to alter the current conditions.
If current dry conditions continue without relief, the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit will suspend burning within the counties of Tuolumne, Calaveras, eastern Stanislaus and eastern San Joaquin by May 12.
