Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — 72 year old Mary Jane Poulk of Wallace was killed in a single vehicle accident Saturday afternoon shortly after two o´clock on South Commanche Parkway west of Limestone Drive.

According CHP Officer Jaime Castillo Poulk was eastbound at an unkonwn rate of speed when for an unknown reason she allowed her 1999 Ford van to travel off the paved portion of the roadway.

Poulk overcorrected to the left and then lost control of the vehicle. The Ford re-entered the eastbound traffic lane and then swerved back to the right and off the roadway again.

Poulk´s vehicle first struck a tree and then a power pole severing it at its base. The vehicle then struck a wire fence and finally came to rest facing in an easterly direction off the roadway.

Poulk was not wearing a seat belt. Castillo added that the investigating officer believes that Poulk would have survived the accident had she been wearing her safety restraint device.

She becomes the fourth traffic related fatality in Calaveras County this year and the first this month.
