Forest Landowners To Hold Three Day Meeting In Sonora
Sonora, Ca — The Forest Landowners of California, a non-profit organization, will hold its 33rd annual meeting this Thursday through Saturday at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds in Sonora.
Melinda Fleming of Tuolumne County is the Executive Director of the statewide organization, and says much of the discussion of the three day meeting will have to do with regulations and the economics of being a forest landowner.
The theme this year is “Family Forest Management Fundamentals: The three R´s – Regulation, Resources and Reforestation.” Panelists will include California Air Resources Board Executive Director Lynn Terry, CAL Fire Resource Management Deputy Director Bill Snyder and numerous others. Local dignitaries, Tuolumne County Supervisor Dick Pland and Sonora Mayor Hank Russell will welcome Forest Landowners at opening ceremonies.
Highlights of the event include a fieldtrip to Kinland Forest with a forest management demonstration by Sierra Resource Management, a tour of Sierra Pacific Industries, Chinese Camp Cedar Mill, a visit to Ultra Power Biomass plant and a face-to-face with USDA Forest Service Fire Management staff and the Hwy. 108 Fire Safe Council of Tuolumne County.
The Guest Speaker for Friday night´s awards banquet will be Art Kauppi of the Tuolumne City Memorial Museum who will give a presentation on the history of Westside Lumber Company. For more information, go to www.forestlandowners.org
