Cogdill’s Gold Star License Plate Bill Passes Through Committee
Sacramento, Ca — Republican State Senator Dave Cogdill is pleased that a bill he co-authored, that would offer “Gold Star License Plates” to families of those who have lost a loved one in active duty, has now passed through the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee.
“Our servicemen and women fight valiantly to protect the freedoms that some people simply take for granted,” said Cogdill in a statement. “Gold Star Family license plates are a small, but significant show of appreciation for our heroes of the U.S. Armed forces who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.”
SB 1455 authorizes the Department of Veterans Affairs to establish a special “Gold Star Family” license plate that would be distributed to the family members on request. The legislation will next be heard in the Senate Appropriations Committee before May 23.
Cogdill says funding for the plates would come through privately raised funds, and would not place additional burden on taxpayers. The bill is co-authored by State Senator Jeff Denham.
