Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — At 3:30 Saturday morning two groups of young adults, playing the West Side Story role of the Sharks and the Jets, did battle for real at a party near River Ranch Campground.

According to Lt. Dan Bressler of the Sheriff´s Office the two groups, one from Sonora and the other from Tuolumne, had “bad blood” because of several previous incidents. One of those incidents reportedly involved a group of Tuolumne kids who were jumped by Sonora kids.

Early Saturday morning a group of Sonora kids left a birthday party at the Posse Grounds in Jamestown and traveled to the River Ranch Campground where the two groups engaged in a melee. The Tuolumne group identified themselves as “Hillside” and “Tuolumne Soldiers.”

Vehicles were struck with weapons and rocks. Certain individuals were assaulted with various weapons. One Twain Harte teen suffered head injuries.

To date no arrests have been made.
