Calaveras Alcohol Sting Operation Leads To Arrests
San Andreas, Ca — Thanks to a grant from California´s Alcohol Beverage Control Department, the Calaveras County Sheriff´s Department has been working to curb underage drinking.
Since September, the department has been running sting operations in which juveniles ask people outside a store to go inside and purchase alcohol for them.
“We´ve found that our store owners are very vigilant in checking IDs of people, but where the system was failing was when adults were contacted outside of the store and asked to purchase alcohol for the kids,” says Under Sheriff Michael Walker.
Since the program was started in September, 29 people have been arrested and booked in Calaveras County jail. An additional 26 have been cited for contributing to the delinquency of the minors.
