Sonora, CA – Ignition of the Cow Creek Underburn is scheduled for Wednesday.
According to Stanislaus National Forest Public Information Officer Pat Kaunert, the two to three day burn will cover 212 acres approximately a half-a-mile north of the community of Cow Creek between Forest Road 5N12 and Hwy 108 three miles north of Pinecrest.
The purpose of the burn is to reduce the buildup of flammable forest fuels (ground and ladder) to reduce the threat of uncontrolled, large damaging fires.
Kaunert adds that smoke will be visable from Hwy 108 with some down-canyon drift smoke visible during the evening and early morning hours.
