Planning Commission Votes Down Lake Tulloch Project
Copperopolis, Ca — A proposal to demolish the Lake Tulloch Resort and construct 32 townhouses was voted down today by the Calaveras County Planning Commission.
The Lake Tulloch Resort, located on O´Byrnes Ferry Rd., currently contains a hotel, restaurant, bar, mini-mart, fuel station and recreational facilities. The owners of the property are hoping to replace the resort with the proposed “Villa del Lago” townhomes, a new parking area and recreational facilities.
By a 3-2 vote, the Planning Commission rejected County staff´s recommendation to certify the project´s environmental document.
“They indicated that they liked the project, but they had a number of concerns with it, primarily that it is being built out over the water.” says Community Development Director Stephanie Moreno. “At this point the project cannot move forward until the applicant reworks the application and brings it back with a new environmental document. Or, they can simply appeal the decision to the Board of Supervisors.”
Portions of the townhomes would extend over Lake Tulloch and the proposed new boat docks. According to the Calaveras Enterprise the resort will close Oct. 31.
