Sonora, CA — 30 year old Amber Ray Powell of Sonora was arrested and charged with felony driving-under-the-influence and felony child endangerment at 2pm Saturday.
Initially Powell was spotted eastbound on Hwy 108 in the Jamestown area traveling between 75-80 mph. According to the CHP report she proceeded eastbound and ran the red light at the S. Washington St. signal colliding with a vehicle driven by 59 year old John R. Steely of Soulsbyville. Powell´s vehicle veered to the right and collided with the guard rail at the southeast corner of the intersection.
Powell suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center while six year old Dezsia Hancock suffered major injuries and was lifeflighted to the U.C. Davis Medical Center. Two other children in the Powell vehicle suffered minor injuries. Steely was not injured.
