Calaveras County Supervisors Will Be Forced To Make Cuts

San Andreas, Ca — Tough budget decisions are ahead for the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors as the Board is scheduled to begin three days of public hearings on the preliminary 2008-09 budget on Tuesday.

CAO Robert Lawton is proposing a 5.4% decrease in General Fund spending from a year ago. The budget calls for $41,695,450 to come from the General Fund, compared to $44,060,355 last year. Total spending would equal $104,130,322, a decrease of 1.7% from one year ago.

The budget calls for two layoffs in the District Attorney´s Office, one at the Library and another in the Community Development Department. It also calls for the elimination of 17 part-time positions within the Sheriff´s Department.

Tuesday´s budget hearing will begin at 10am during the regular board meeting in the Supervisors Chambers. Wednesday´s hearing will begin at 9am in the CALWORKS Sequoia Room at 509 E. Charles St. in San Andreas. Thursday´s hearing will start at 9am at the San Andreas Town Hall at 24 Church Hill Rd.
