Budget Hearings To Open In Calaveras County
San Andreas, CA — Three days of budget hearings get underway today in Calaveras County.
County Administrative Officer Bob Lawton is calling for a 5.4 percent cut in general fund spending for the next fiscal year.
During that time period Lawton is calling for the elimination of two fulltime positions in the District Attorney´s Office, two layoffs in the Community Development-Building Department and one full-time layoff in the County Library.
Lawton adds that the major problems are declining revenues on a county level and an uncertainty regarding the still-to-be-determined state budget.
Today´s opening meeting is set for 10am in the Board of Supervisors Chambers. Wednesday and Thursday´s meetings are set for a 9am start in the Sequoia Room at Calworks and the San Andreas Town Hall respectively.
