Hwy 49 Fatality Identified By C.H.P.
Sonora, CA — 76 year old Sharlee Weston of Sonora has been identified by the C.H.P. as deceased in that single vehicle accident Friday evening on Hwy 49 near Shaws Flat Rd.
Officer Mike Remmel reports Weston was driving westbound at an unknown rate of speed when she hit a deer and subsequently lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle overturned. Weston, who was not wearing her seatbelt, was pronounced dead at Sonora Regional Medical Center.
This marks the first traffic related fatality of the new year in Tuolumne County. The final total for 2009 was 20 fatalities. 13 people were killed in traffic related accidents in Calaveras County last year.
