Cox Says Lawmakers Must Not Delay Fixing Deficit

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — California lawmakers are expected to return to session in the coming weeks to address the growing fiscal deficit.

State Legislative Analyst Mac Taylor recently estimated that it will grow to $21 billion over the next year and half unless action is taken soon.

“We must take a fine-tooth comb through every state program and ask if it provides a critical service to our residents,” says Dave Cox, District One Republican State Senator in his weekly Capitol Report. “Is it an effective program? Is it a priority? Can it be carried out more efficiently.”

Cox adds, “The difficult decisions won’t be made easier by delaying.”

To fix the budget problem Cox is advocating that lawmakers and the Governor find a way to restructure the operations of state government.
