Summerville High Bears Packin’ For Modesto
Tuolumne, CA — Coming off the Thanksgiving Day holiday, the Summerville High Bears will be packing their gear today and heading for a seven o’clock showdown this evening with the Raiders of Central Catholic High School in Modesto.
In reaching the quarterfinal round of the Division IV Sac-Joaquin playoffs, both the Bears and the Raiders are 10-1. The Bears are the third seed in the B bracket, the Raiders are the second seed in the same bracket. Summerville has won nine in a row.
From Summerville Head Football Coach Ben Watson, “They have an outstanding senior quarterback in Dylan Swartz. He was very good last year, but this year he has really come around to where he’s one of the top quarterbacks in the state in my opinion.
Their running game is solid. They run-pass 50 percent of the time. they play solid defense and they have outstanding team speed as well as great athletes at every position.
The biggest thing we need to do is keep the ball … make sure we’re limiting their offensive plays. They’re such a powerful offensive team with a quality defense.
We went down to Central last year and gave them a heck of a game. We came up a little short. I don’t think our kids are too worried about it in terms of going on the road. We’re not that type of team that worries about home/road games.
My coaching staff feels our kids are very, very special and we just want them to perform their best and we’ll see what happens at the end.”
Tonight’s game will be broadcast on 93.5 KKBN with the pregame show starting at 6:45 … the kickoff at seven o’clock. The game will also be audio streamed on myMotherLode.com.
