The Summerville High Football team won the Mother Lode League championship for the first time since 1997. Tonight is first round playoff action as the Bears host Ripon beginning at 7pm.

The Bears finished the season 5-0 in league play and 9-1 overall.

Summerville High School Principle, Dave Urquhart, was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

There will be a student rally this morning, which will recognize the football players for their first place finish in the Motherlode League. The volleyball team will also be recognized, which also took first place. Cross Country Freshman Kristen Turner will be running in the state meet on Saturday November 28th. She will also be recognized.

Urquhart expects a large crowd for tonight’s game, despite the anticipated cold and wet weather.

Summerville Bears can be heard on Today’s Country 93.5 FM, KKBN . The game will also be streamed live here on www.mymotherlode.com Click sports.

Other area football teams looking forward to the playoffs include Sonora, who finished third in the Valley Oak League, and Calaveras High who was second in the Mother Lode League.
