Calaveras County Goes Gold At State Fair

Sponsored by:

Angels Camp, CA — Calaveras County proved to be a double winner at the California State Fair over the weekend.

Lisa Mayo, the Calaveras Visitors Bureau Executive Director, was Wedesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

According to Mayo, the county gained a gold ribbon for its display booth that highlight Big Trees State Park.

Given the theme, Weird, Wild and Wacky, “We know we have some weird, wild and wacky things to share about Calaveras County but we wanted to do it tastefully so we focused on our wild side, thing like the Pioneer’s Cabin Tree at Big Trees State Park, our wild rivers, wild adventures and wildlife.”

The booth was judged on content, marketability, craftsmanship, creative use of products, produce and/or artifacts and technology and/or animation, special effects and experience.

The Visitors Bureau also won a Best Experience Award. On hand to accept the Friday honors were Board of Supervisors Chair Russ Thomas and First District Supervisor Gary Tofanelli.

The KVML “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
