Fight Crime In Your Neighborhood

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department is encouraging residents to work together to deter crime.

Sgt. Dave Seawell was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Seawell says neighbors looking out for one another is one of the most simple and affordable ways to reduce crime in an area. He says it is also important to report any suspicious activity to a local law enforcement agency.

Unfortunately, crime has been a growing problem in the region over the past couple decades.

“I’ve been with the Sheriff’s Office for almost 22 years and I’ve seen how crime has increased and the types of crimes,” says Sgt. Seawell. “For example, back in the day when I started, it was not uncommon for someone to leave their car unlocked, windows down and purse sitting there. Unfortunately, those days are gone.”

3.9 million crimes are reported in California every year.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
