Barrett To Be Sentenced Today

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Peter Loren Barrett is scheduled to be sentenced this afternoon at one o’clock in Department Four of Superior Court before Judge Eleanor Provost for his role in the high speed accident that seriously injured Sonora Police Officer Jeff Aitken.

Barrett has been incarcerated since the May 16 accident on Lyons Bald Mountain Rd. His bail was set at $750,000.

For his part Officer Aitken has stated, “I have no ill feeling toward Peter … I don’t know Peter. The feelings I have of anger and frustration are based on the decisions that he made that night and what I have not been shown by him has been any compassion or sympathy or an apology. Whether or not that has been at the direction of his attorney I don’t know.

I don’t know him to judge him but I do know his actions that night and that is what frustrates me. I hope if nothing else comes of this he at least realizes what his decisions have led to and that he takes responsibility for those decisions and learns from them and maybe helps others not make the same decisions that he made. That would be the best reward that could come out of this.”
