Recreation Department Will Likely Stay Open

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Tuolumne County is now planning to keep the Recreation Department primarily intact thanks to new revenue estimates that show the county having additional general fund revenue.

"Fortunately it looks like the county will be able to reinstate the Recreation Department programs pretty much in full capacity," says Mike Russell, Recreation Department Director. "The pools will be in full operation in 2010, our summer morning recreation program will be operational next year as well as all of our summer trips and clinics."

Russell points out that this is still pending the Board of Supervisors final approval later this month. In May, the Supervisors had voted to cut a majority of the Recreation Department programs as part of the preliminary budget. As part of the new proposed plan discussed this week, the Recreation Department will have to eliminate the equivalent of one and a half positions, but will be able to maintain a majority of the offerings.
