Sonora, CA — The Sonora Police Department sponsored a National Night Out event Tuesday evening at the Sonora Opera Hall.
Police Chief Mark Stinson says it is a way for citizens to speak directly to officers about problems that are facing the community, and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime and drugs.
Similar events were held in 15,000 other communities spanning all 50 states.
Sgt. Glenn Roberts says common concerns voiced from residents are about parking or excessive noise near a residence.
The Police Department kicked off Sonora’s event by serving ice cream to everyone in attendance.
