Knight Fire Grows To 2,374 Acres
Sonora, CA — The Knight Fire in the Stanislaus River Canyon is currently estimated to be 2,374 acres and is 20 percent contained.
"This fire is well established in the Middle Fork Stanislaus River Canyon, and it will be days ahead before we can actually corral this fire," says Pat Kaunert of the Stanislaus National Forest. "This is a true campaign fire and to provide for firefighter safety, we are having to go indirect in our fire line construction. The terrain is very difficult and very steep."
The Mt. Knight Subdivision remains potentially threatened by the fire, but Kaunert says crews are making good progress in creating a line of protection.
The estimated cost to fight the fire has surpassed $2.5 million. 1,190 firefighters are assisting with the effort.
