275 Acres Burned In Knight Fire

Sonora, CA — According to Stanislaus National Forest Spokesman Pat Kaunert the Stanislaus River Canyon fire, now named the Knight Fire, has grown to 275 acres.

Resources that have been ordered for today’s firefighting effort include 15 handcrews (20 firefighters per crew), six dozers, 14 engines, two water tenders, six tankers and seven water dropping helicopters. Overall there will be more than 500 firefighters on site today.

A Type II Forest Service Incident Management Team will be in place by 10am today. 

A number of children were evacuated from a numer of recreational cabins Sunday although no formal evac order has been issued by the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office.

Cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
