S.C.C. Prisoner Faces Five Charges

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — One time escaped Sierra Conservation Center inmate George Landecho Lopez has been charged with burglary, arson and possession of stolen property stemming from a July 18, 2008 fire at 6900 O’Byrnes Ferry Rd.

Lopez escaped from the prison two days earlier and allegedly set fire to the home that was built in the 1970’s by a Hollywood producer. The house contained movie memorabilia and had been used by actors like Clint Eastwood and Michael J. Fox.

Lopez was captured on July 22, 2008 at the Chinese Camp volunteer fire station in possession of jewelry and other valuables from the O’Byrnes Ferry Rd. home. He also faces a felony charge for escaping from the prison by force and a burglary charge for breaking into the fire station.

The fire did an estimated $1 million in damage when you factor in the structure and contents.
