Michael Thompson Waives Preliminary Hearing

San Andreas, CA — According to Calaveras County District Attorney Jeff Tuttle 29 year old Michael Thompson waived his preliminary hearing Monday afternoon at three o’clock.

Thompson will now be bound over to Superior Court for a trial date. That date has yet to be set by the clerk of the Superior Court.

Thompson was involved in a May 27 altercation with Calaveras County Sheriff’s Deputies Rick DiBasilio and Wade Whitney on Railroad Flat Rd. when he was shot attempting to flee the scene in a stolen car.

He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, threats of force or violence on a peace officer, driving a stolen vehicle and possession of stolen property.

Calaveras County Sheriff Dennis Downum has stated that Thompson’s blood test indicated he was under the influence of methamphetamine when the alleged crimes took place. 

Thompson has pleaded not guilty to the charges. Bail has been set at $750,000.
