Sonora, CA — A second Veterans to Veterans Stand Down is being planned for next fall at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds.
The event assists homeless Veterans and is put together by Chapter 391 of the Vietnam Veterans of America. Event Chairman Frank Smart says, “Last year’s Stand Down was successful in that we assisted four homeless veterans in finding some sort of housing.”
New this year will be a coordinated effort to bus in Veterans from neighboring counties like Amador and Mariposa. Smart says there will also be a “Homeless Veterans Court,” which is a chance for Veterans to get their record expunged of minor offenses which can prevent someone from getting a drivers license. It will be in coordination with the DA’s Office.
The Stand Down is set for September 10-12.
