Columbia College’s Friday Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Sponsored by:

The new Public Safety Center, Columbia College’s first Measure E-funded building project, is now complete.

A ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, April 10 at 10:00 a.m. will celebrate its official opening. The public is invited to attend the ceremony at the college’s main campus in Sonora and tour the new facility.

Columbia College’s Marketing and Public Relations Officer, Doug Lau, was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

The $2.8 million building project, consolidates the existing campus emergency services into a single location. The original structure that housed the Columbia College Fire Station was expanded so that the campus security and emergency dispatch services could all be combined into one Public Safety Center.

The structure will also contain a residential facility with separate quarters for men and women fire science students. The living area includes a commercial-sized kitchen and a weight training room.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” can be heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
