April Is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Sponsored by:

Mt. Women’s Resource Center is reminding the community that the month of April is sexual assault awareness month.

Prevention educators Bonnie Bryson and Marta Herron were KVML’s Thursday “Newsmaker of the Day”.

According to Herron, a person is sexually assaulted once every two minutes in North America.

The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office records show that were eighteen felony arrests for sexual offenses in 2006.

In the majority of cases, the victim knows the perpetrator of a sexual assault.

Sexual assault knows no gender, age, class or race with the most vulnerable victims being seniors, children and those with disabilities.

The Mt. Women’s Resource Center provides a 24 hour crisis line as well as emergency services, shelter and advocacy counseling groups.

The Resource Center is located on 19900 Cedar Road North with office hours from 9am – 5pm on weekdays. All of the services provided are both free and confidential.

The 24 crisis line (209) 533-3401.

Mt Women’s Resource Center is also seeking volunteers. Call 588-9305 for more information

The KVML Newsmaker of the Day is heard each weekday morning at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
