Snowpack Levels Remain Low

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — California’s snowpack total is 81 percent of average for this time of year.

The Department of Water Resources fourth manual snowpack survey of the year shows that the northern Sierra is at 87 percent, the central 81 percent and the southern 77 percent.

Last year at this time, the statewide snowpack total was 95 percent of normal.

“A below average snowpack for this time of year, especially following two consecutive dry years is a cause for concern,” says DWR Director Lester Snow. “Our most critical storage reservoirs remain low, and we face severe water supply problems in most parts of our state.”
