Sacramento, CA — It’s called Vehicle Occupant Restraint Day and it’s sponsored by the Highway Patrol and it’s on tap for today. The black and whites will be out in full force seeking those who fail to “buckle up.” Statewide the figure for seat belt usage is 95.7 percent.
Officer Tom Wills states that Mother Lode seat belt usage is between 97-98 percent.
Last year 204,000 citations were issued to those who failed to “buckle up” in California. In addition 17,000 citations were issued for child safety seat violations. Wills adds that 98 percent of child safety seats in the Mother Lode are improperly installed.
