Three Inmates Attempt Jail Break

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA – A trio of Tuolumne County Jail inmates tried to escape but did not get far, officials say.

According to Tuolumne County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Andrea Benson, 28-year-old Jacob Sabins, 38-year-old Josiah Silveira, and 44-year-old Larry Vannatta are now facing additional charges of attempted escape and criminal conspiracy.

She recounts that deputies heard a commotion and spotted the three men on surveillance video as they were breaking a window in their housing unit that leads outside the facility. She says they also took apart items in their unit to use as tools in their escape attempt.

However, jail personnel stopped the men before they could attempt to physically leave the building and make a run for it.
