Tip A Cop Night Benefits Special Olympics
Sonora, CA — It was a packed house Wednesday evening at Applebee’s at the Crossroads Shopping Center hosted the annual Tip A Cop Night for the benefit of Tuolumne County Special Olympics.
Four members of the Sonora Police Department including Chief Mark Stinson along with two deputies from the Sheriff’s Office teamed up with Special Olympic athletes to raise funds for the program.
From the County’s Coroner’s Office (Sheriff’s Office) Rob Lyons commented, “My wife got me started first. She worked with Special Olympics for many years and I just grew to love the kids and then when I got this opportunity here it’s such a great cause plus they’re trying to raise money tonight specifically for basketball which is another love of our family. We’ve known many of the kids throughout 4H and other groups in the community. We just love the kids. They’re so positive and outgoing and friendly and you can’t get more love than you get from knowing these kids.”
A grand total of $1,611 was raised during the evening.
