Volunteer Unit Continues To Aid Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department

San Andreas, CA — With a decrease in funding volunteers are playing an even more significant role in the daily operation of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department.

Heading up the Volunteer Unit is Lt. Gary Cuntz who currently has 19 volunteers. He adds the number can swell to 40-50.

Formed 10 years ago, the Volunteer Unit has totaled close to 9,000 hours for the department. The lions’ share of 2,439 hours has been dedicated to substation staffing while 2,429 hours have been allocated to patrol duties.

Here is a breakdown of hours donated by the Volunteer Unit; Meetings/Training (774), Fair/Events (885), Substation Staffing (2,439), Patrol (2,429/34,347 miles driven), Clerical Duties (1,221), Unit Administration (493) and miscellaneous assignments (720 hours).
