Occupational Olympics Enters 22nd Year

Columbia, CA — Over 200 high school students from Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties will compete in ten categories at next week’s Occupational Olympics set to be held at the Columbia College Campus.

Students will participate in competitions involving automotive technology, child development, computer business applications, food services, health occupations and others.

Columbia Marketing and Public Relations Officer Doug Lau says the participating schools are Calaveras High, Bret Harte High, Don Pedro High, Sonora High and Summerville High.

This will mark the 22nd year of the event, which will be held March 12th beginning at 9:30am. An award ceremony will begin at 1pm, and speakers will include Summerville High Principal Dave Urquhart, Columbia President Dr. Joan Smith, Summerville Superintendent Dr. John Keiter and Calaveras High Superintendent Jim Frost.

It is sponsored by Partners in Education, Tuolumne County Office of Education, Calaveras County Office of Education and Columbia College.
